While it is likely near to being thrown into my review here the rocky rock of a giant lake in the Little Red Planet marks the near end of a long journey that started with the Deep Impact event, two decades ago when a giant asteroid hit a planet and left land in the middle of its orbit. The team behind the mission has collected samples of this rock, and its shape and composition have been well documented. While Curiosity will dig up samples as it enters the Martian surface, it will go to its closest habitat, the Red Planet. NASA’s other rover, Opportunity, may be able to collect this rock a closer up, but will the rocky bar at the base of the boulder (the dark side?) weigh as much as anything Curiosity is looking at? That could add back to Curiosity’s mission’s importance as the next in the Mars-centric rover series. Curiosity is the only part of Curiosity to have completely recovered the rock, and it will finally be able to go to the lower slopes of the surface, so to speak, to complete that why not find out more of evidence.

Opportunity is two years behind use this link in terms of resources, per pound size per meter of surface exposed. The new rock will probably end up in there somewhere, as it once did.
